James Hohmann is a Washington Post editorial writer and columnist specializing in domestic policy and politics. He is also chief commentator for The Post’s video team, offering analysis during all live coverage. And he is a Stanford University lecturer, teaching courses on campaigns and Congress. Hohmann first joined The Post in 2008 and returned to the newspaper in 2015 after six years at Politico. He previously served as a national political correspondent, authored The Daily 202 newsletter, hosted The Big Idea podcast and anchored PowerPost, a newsroom vertical focused on the intersection of politics and policy.
Derek Kilmer serves as the United States Representative of Washington’s 6th Congressional District. With over a decade of experience working in economic development in the Puget Sound region, Derek is focused on getting our economy and our Congress back to work. Derek has a strong record as a problem solver for Washington families and he's been recognized by veterans organizations for his support of our troops, their families, and those who have served. He received a BA from Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs and earned a doctorate from the University of Oxford in England.
Karen Tumulty is an associate editor and columnist for The Post. In her previous role as a national political correspondent for the newspaper, she received the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting. She joined The Post in 2010 from Time magazine, where she had held the same title. During her more than 15 years at Time, Tumulty wrote or co-wrote more than three dozen cover stories. She also held positions with Time as congressional correspondent and White House correspondent. Tumulty holds a bachelor of journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Max Stier is the founding president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service. At the Partnership, he oversees efforts to provide data, insights and recommendations to the executive and legislative branches, create and deliver programs for federal leaders at all levels, strengthen and support the federal workforce, and build connections among the public, private and charitable sectors. Under his watch, the Partnership has grown its budget, portfolio and profile, becoming a trusted authority on federal management and workforce issues through such initiatives as the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals® program, the Best Places to Work in the Federal Government® rankings, the Call to Serve network and the Center for Presidential Transition®.
Rhett Buttle is an entrepreneur, advocate, and one of the most trusted leaders at the intersection of business and policy in Washington, DC. Most recently, Rhett served as National Business Advisor to President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign. He has worked for President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Rhett is the founder of Public Private Strategies (PPS) and President of the Public Private Strategies Institute (PPSI), which works to bring together the public and private sectors to build coalitions, activate campaigns, and create strategic partnerships to drive policy and market outcomes.
Jenny Mattingley oversees the strategic direction for the Partnership’s government affairs and advocacy efforts focused on improving and modernizing government management and services for the public. Jenny comes to the Partnership and the Government Affairs team with a passion for supporting federal public servants through policies and programs that provide the tools needed to meet their missions. Jenny has been working to make government better in a variety of roles prior to joining the Partnership.
Will Jenkins helps lead the Partnership’s initiative to make government more trustworthy and more trusted by building the capacity of federal agencies, setting a standard for public institutions, and showing how public servants are tackling our biggest challenges. He has served in senior positions across multiple administrations in the White House, the Department of Health and Human Services, and Congress; developed leadership programs for hundreds of Congressional staffers and federal agency officials; and collaborated with TV and film creators telling stories about civic leaders solving problems and helping communities thrive.
Doug Hattaway founded Hattaway Communications to help visionary leaders and organizations use the power of strategy, science, and storytelling to achieve ambitious goals for people and the planet. A storyteller by training—in journalism and creative writing—he is passionate about adapting insights from the social sciences to enhance the power of strategic communications. Doug has three decades of experience working with leaders at the highest levels of U.S. politics and government, international organizations and NGOs, cutting-edge businesses, and the world’s largest foundations.
